Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO will oversee Dulles Greenway’s internal and external financial reporting and compliance. They will guide financial decisions and protect Company assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies, procedures, and internal controls. The CFO will lead and manage an Accounting and Financial Reporting team comprised of an Accounting and Business Services Manager and Accounting Clerk.
This position assists the CEO in maintaining the relationships with key stakeholders and responding to Shareholder requests and the preparation of quarterly Board materials.
Responsibilities:
- Oversight and management of a timely, efficient and effective financial reporting close process including journal entry and reconciliation review.
- Ensure financial statements are completed timely, accurately and recorded in compliance with US GAAP.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk and which are fit for the size and sophistication of the Company.
- Lead annual external audit and tax returns including drafting annual financial statements including footnote support.
- Understand revenue reports, database and ensure appropriate accounting and reconciliation of revenue transactions.
- Prepare quarterly financial forecasts and annual reporting packages for submission to the Board of Directors.
- Ensure compliance with debt agreements including preparation and submission of financial coverage ratios and related compliance certifications.
- Lead the annual budget process to ensure development of comprehensive budget in coordination with the CEO.
- Oversight for the internal toll audit function of the Company, responsible for the proper reporting of collected revenue and revenue variances.
- Review of accounting systems and processes, identification of options and recommendation of path forward. Executing on the agreed upon path in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Lead the Enterprise Risk Management program including coordination with Atlas Arteria on required risk reporting documentation.
- Ability to research and determine appropriate accounting from codification.
- Work with tax advisor to ensure timely filing of applicable taxes.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Work with CEO and HR consultant to ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place from an HR perspective. Assist with the updating of the Employee Handbook to ensure it covers applicable policies and procedures.
- Lead the payroll process to ensure timely payment of employees.
- Review the modules available through ADP and propose a path forward to automate and streamline payment, performance and other HR processes for the Greenway.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field of study (required).
- Certified Public Account Certification (required), previous public accounting experience preferred.
- 10 years or more of related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Attention to detail.
- Leadership experience managing an Accounting and Financial Reporting team including responsibility for staff development (required).
- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and application of and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Experience overseeing monthly close process and implementing enhancements to shorten reporting period and improve business controls, strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of corporate financial accounting, shareholders, bondholders and expectations of corporations with complex capital structures and public debt
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact with Board members and debt holders for presentations during board meetings and discussions on various issues.
- Excellent problem solving and solid business judgement to address issues.
- Highly developed analytical and research skills. Ability to understand business objectives and perform detailed financial analysis.
- Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure and meet specific targets.
- Experience with Microsoft GP Dynamics (preferred) and proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proficient in accounting preparation software.
- Prior ERP implementation experience preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- This role operates in an office setting and requires the ability to sit, type, and use standard office equipment. May occasionally require lifting up to 25 pounds.
